EP Review: TuskHead – Modern Electric Settings

If you like your outlaw country or folk music, then TuskHead and his new EP might be for you! The EP actually came out in July and only features two songs, but both tracks truly sound amazing, making Modern Electric Settings a must listen for anyone into this style of music. I was captivated from the very first listen to first track Maybe, and I truly cannot wait to hear what the curiously titled artist comes up with next time around.

By Jane Howkins

Despite the fact that his sound is absolutely drenched in Americana, TuskHead actually hails from Europe, making these songs sound even more impressive! Both tracks are drenched in soul and passion, harking back to the glory days of the folk/country movement. My favourite song of the two is the first track Maybe, which is hauntingly beautiful throughout. The opening guitar lick is simple yet effective, weaving in and out of the music against the violin and acoustic guitars.

The next song is Goodbye, Music City, which has a similar feel and themes to the previous tune. There’s a nice mixture of electric and acoustic guitars, with the odd fiddle melody also present, drifting soulfully away in the background. TuskHead’s vocals sound really full here, resonating from his belly with a deep and soulful vocal pattern. There’s even a beautiful sounding guitar solo later on, simply seeping rawness into the music.

I stumbled across TuskHead’s music almost by accident, and I’m so glad I didn’t miss out, as both tracks on Modern Electric Settings are wonderful to behold. If you only have time to listen to one song though, make sure it’s Maybe – it really is a beautiful piece of work, full of strong songwriting.
