A Sheffield-based artist inspired by the guitar driven rock of the ’90s, Mat Hook has appeared on a few times before on this blog with posts about his singles, Runaway Road, Alone You Go and Bleed Me Dry.
By Graeme Smith
His latest release is a collaboration between Mat, songwriter Paul Fletcher and producer James Fosbury called Won’t Let the World. A powerful acoustic guitar arrangement gets things going before Mat’s ever-expressive vocals come in. Lyrically, the track speaks of finding strength and support during dark times, a message cemented by the anthemic chorus which is beautifully rousing. As it progresses, it builds all while keeping its acoustic root.
Mat will be back in February 2025 with his first seven inch vinyl release.
Won’t Let the World was recorded at Big Dog Studios in Sheffield. It’s out now and you can give it a listen below.
