Video: Mat Hook – Runaway Road

Mat Hook is a Sheffield-based artist who has just hit my radar thanks to his new track and video. Written during a tough time in his life, it reflects his ‘me against the world’ mentality then. It’s called Runaway Road.

By Graeme Smith

Runaway Road is swaggering indie rock for fans of Oasis, The Verve and Ocean Colour Scene. Mat takes the classic sound and injects is with a heady amount of authentic emotion that really elevates it, particularly during a passionate, anthemic chorus.

Mat was once part of the band Kartica whose live performances lit up the local scene and gained attention from further afield. After leaving the band, he took a seven year hiatus before returning to live music as a solo act.

Runaway Road was produced by Sheffield-legend Paul Tuffs and recorded in “Tufty’s Rave Cave” as it’s affectionately known. Also involved in the recording were Dave Howard on bass, Sam Cotteril on lead guitar and Matt Dacey on drums. You can check out the video for Runaway Road below.
