Ravetank burst onto our radar in 2023 thanks to their live-recorded noise pop album Echoes From Feedback Mountain. Now they’re back with another live-recorded follow up. It’s called Mid Life Crisis Paul McCartney (Rick’s Version).
By Graeme Smith
Mid Life Crisis… is an interesting concept. It’s only two tracks and ten minutes long, but there’s such a density to it that it feels a lot bigger. Ravetank have, once again, taken to the Old Road Tavern in Chippenham to record the EP. This time, however, they’ve brought along collaborator Rick on drums (hence the “Rick’s version” in the EP name.)
The track actually appeared on Echoes From Feedback Mountain but the new version gives it a new dimension. The band were hampered in that its original recording wasn’t multi-track. This one is, giving them more scope to polish the sound. The result is impressive and we get plenty of jangly punk and pop energy.
Accompanying the track is a new recording of Burrito Babe which also featured on the previous album. The new version loses none of its rawness as it slowly develops over six minutes.
Ravetank are a band who revels in doing their own thing, and have a edgy rock sound that’s hard to come by in a world of overproduction. If you didn’t check out their previous album, then their new EP will be the perfect introduction to their sound for you.
Mid Life Crisis Paul McCartney (Rick’s Version) is out now and you can give it a listen below.
