Fast becoming a favourite of ours, néomí is back on the blog through her heart-breaking ballad, It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind.)
By Graeme Smith
The Amsterdam, Netherlands-based singer-songwriter’s latest is a ghostly and melancholic effort. Stripped-back acoustic guitar and dark electronica give plenty of space to her heart-breaking vocals. We get some catharsis in the chorus and things even powerfully in a stunning, orchestral climax.
“It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind) is about the grief you feel for leaving someone behind in life, even though it might be the right thing to do,” she explains. “It is always hard, and it’s never easy to go in different paths. If you’ve loved someone for such a long time you can become ‘one’, you have to give up a whole identity to break that apart. I wrote this song as a reminder that time will ease the pain, as long as you just move on and make good choices for yourself. And especially if you don’t forget who you are as a person yourself.”
The track will feature on néomí’s next EP, Another Year Will Pass, set for release 31 October 2025 via Nettwerk.
If you want to hear néomí live, you’re in luck. She’ll be playing at The Crescent, York with Seafret on 11 May 2025. If you can’t make that date, she’ll also be at the Social in Hull on 21 May and the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on 22 May. You can get your tickets here.
