Hailing from Leeds, Maame is a new artist to us, but one to which I’m sure we’ll be returning.

Her debut single, Sure, is a soulful yet biting number that combines a percussive groove with airy vocals. They deliver lyrics that ooze with frustration, telling a tale of indecisive love. The vocals shine during some post-chorus vamping and things threaten to boil over during a layered finale.

Maame relocated to Leeds from Kent where she was picked up by her local BBC Radio Kent and was part of the Social Singing Choir in Margate. Her sound is inspired by the likes of Ariana Grande, Amber Mark, and Janelle Monáe. She’s promising us much more music this year and I can’t wait to hear it!
