Discovery: Ellie Walker releases must listen folk pop EP

Carrying the torch for the likes of Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Norah Jones, Ellie Walker is new to our blog through her vulnerable EP, The Balance.

By Graeme Smith

The Balance is a collection of four tracks that show plenty of range, acting as the perfect introduction to the artist.

Brightness contrasts with darkness as each track takes on a different theme, never losing any sense of depth in their lyrics whether they take on modern family life, mental health, or past relationships.

Balance gets things going in a vibrant folksy way, giving us our first taste of Walker’s compelling vocals and confessional lyrics. The Old Oak follows by slowing things down, drawing on natural imagery to tell its intimate tale.

The EP is rounded off by the pleading, emotionally complex Let Me Go and the cinematic, piano-driven One Day.

Written and recorded in 2024 in rural Norfolk, The Balance shows what Walker has as a singer, songwriter, and musician. For those that are into folk-pop her new EP is a must listen.

If you fancy catching Walker performing the EP live, she’ll be playing a launch gig on 12 December 2025 at the Plough, Cambridge.

The Balance EP is out now, and you can listen to it below.
