Luke Potter is new to us, but I expect his latest single isn’t the last we’ll hear from him.
By Graeme Smith
Reflecting on the end of a long relationship and the feelings that carry over, The Misery isn’t a track to necessarily uplift you during these dark winter days. Yet, it does come with a healthy dose of catharsis that does leave you feeling oddly unburdened.
A soft vocal accompanies acoustic guitar in a stripped back first verse before the track hits its stride in a vibrant, folk-pop chorus. Rousing percussion and licks of strings build the emotional complexity before the song arrives at its lingering conclusion.
“Last Christmas I posted a picture of myself and my wife looking like we owned the world,” explains Potter. “Three months later we were no longer together.”
An artist, songwriter and producer based in the South West, Potter has released five solo singles and an EP in 2025. He’s also been producing for other artists in his Sweet Factory studio near Bristol.
The Misery is out now, and you can listen to it below.
