In 2023, Jánnos Eolou released Tangos of the Magic Reality to much acclaim, including from us. “I guarantee you won’t have heard tangos like these before,” I said in my review.

Now, as we tick over into 2026, the Greek composer has returned with Night Beyond, thirteen compositions full of nocturnal drama, underpinned by folk heritage and making classical music cinematic and contemporary.
Each piece is infused with subtle philosophy and storytelling, reflecting on ideas of the unknown, divinity and the cosmic. Under the Same Sky is a standout moment, embodying this ideal in every stirring note.
Compositionally, the pieces are created by combining a string ensemble with the Middle Eastern/Mediterranean instrument the qanun and Eolou’s piano. The instrumental choices reflect Eolou’s heritage, and the beautiful Mediterranean sky.
It’s this sense of autobiography and introspection that sets the album apart from Tangos of the Magic Reality. It enhances our knowledge of the composer without losing what made us pay attention to him in the first place.
You can keep up to date with all things Jánnos Eolou by heading to his website, and by following him on Facebook, Spotify, and YouTube.
