What if you thought the life you had was perfect only to discover it’s far from it?
By Graeme Smith
It’s perhaps the most human thing in the world to wake up one day and realise all you’ve been working towards is no longer what you want. It’s daunting. Many of us, understandably, shy away from it. Some of us embrace it, explore it, and meet it head on.
This is the kind of quiet identity crisis that Zoe Konez explores on her upcoming album, Everything’s Fine. Across twelve tracks she welcomes us into her world and slowly, gradually breaks our hearts.
I love an album that works as a wider narrative and isn’t just a collection of songs, and Everything’s Fine is a shining example. From its simmering and ambient opener Paragon to its final resolution, Yeah I Know, the record takes us on an emotional journey.
Throughout, Konez’s vocals are light and ghostly providing an intimate anchor for instrumentals that are often cinematic and dramatic. Konez wrote, recorded, and produced the album herself, deploying mastery to her DIY style, meaning everything feels intentional and personal.
Some tracks are folksy, earthly, and confessional such as the devastating I Don’t Want To Be Lonely Anymore. Others feel more outward-looking and are full of messages of peace, such as Easy To Learn and This Utopia.
Other highlights include the delicate I Know It Happened But I Can’t Explain and the richly relatable Time For Tea. The latter sees the album emerge from anguish to an unsteady healthiness.
Listening on headphones, I found the album in its entirety beautifully stirring. It felt as if Konez was whispering her encouraging messages directly into my ear. Her vocals are truly captivating, and she follows the ‘less is more’ rule with her instrumentals impeccably.
Everything’s Fine was crafted in between the southern locations of Brixton and Brighton; the latter is where Konez is based, appealing to an international audience through her personal and heartfelt compositions. She’s earned over five million streams on Spotify and has been picked up by Apple Music, BBC Radio 6 Music, and Netflix’s Love Is Blind USA. On the road she’s played across the UK, Europe, and Australia.
If you want to keep up to date with all she’s doing, you can by heading to her website, and by following her on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Spotify, Bandcamp, and YouTube.
Everything’s Fine is out 12 June 2026.
