It’s quite rare for an artist to rework a previous song, but it does happen occasionally. Fiona Amaka’s new release Justified is actually a remake of her 2024 track Justified (Cosmic). Whilst I enjoyed the original (and the Piano Edit variation also released that year), the new version is the definitive track for me.

On Justified, the British singer-songwriter combines moments of pop, rock, the blues, soul and indie to make something that seems personally unique to her music and style. Lyrically, the tune is based around the ending of a relationship, making it extremely relatable for most of us. It’s certainly an emotive piece of work, which you can really feel through the soulful vocal delivery that Fiona Amaka delivers with ease. Musically, the guitars are of particular importance here, with some lovely little guitar licks and melodies flourishing in the background against the rhythm section and Fiona’s sultry voice.
