Interview: Andrei British

We recently carried out a review of Andrei British’s new single Alien Jazz Girl, also featuring the powerful vocals of Bec Hollcraft. It’s a brilliant track and hows just how brilliant Andrei’s songwriting skills are, able to write within a number of different genres. If you liked the song and want to find out more about Andrei, this is the best place to start. And if you somehow missed our review of Alien Jazz Girl the first time around, you can also find a stream of the single at the bittm of the interview.

You’ve just released a fantastic new tune titled Alien Jazz Girl. What can you tell us about the track?

This track and the one I will release after that are from the same universe: Step into a smoky jazz lounge on a lawless outer-rim outpost. This track blends smooth, romantic jazz melodies with a gritty sci-fi atmosphere, perfect for a quiet night watching the stars.

How has the reception been to Alien Jazz Girl so far?

It was good but a lot of curators did not know what playlist to put it on lol: it is futuristic retro jazz.

You’ve released quite a few singles this year. Are there any plans to release any more?

Yes, as I said I have a song coming at the end of the month: Distant Moon Cantina, it is jazz still.

Can we expect a full-length album or EP release in the near future?

No, this is my hobby, I create songs which I like and listen to them driving or on a couch relaxing, and I want to share my music with people who like my style.

Alien Jazz Girl has a wonderful jazz-pop sound, using quite a few different genres. What/who are your main influences as an artist?

Saxophones, retro jazz, jazz, and Aerosmith’s Walk this Way

You’re from Pompano Beach in Florida. What is the local music scene like in your area and are there any local artists/venues you can recommend our readers check out?

It is a digital world now so it is the same as everywhere else.

How did you start out as an artist? Did you always want to be a musician or is it a newer ambition?

I just got tired of scrolling through Spotify to find songs I like, so I decided to write my own, which I know I like!

Do you ever perform your music live? What can fans expect from one of your shows?

No.

Are there any plans to tour in the UK? We’d love to catch you live!

No, but I have collaborated with some good artists in the UK, I like London and this old Lake region by the Scottish borders (the lake District).
