American singer-songwriter Jake Herring appears for the first time in these pages with his new release, Hollow Man. I’m surprised we’ve not covered Jake’s music before, as this song is very much a poignant indie-folk offering that explores some extremely vulnerable issues.
By Jane Howkins
Hollow Man is an extremely warm and beautifully crafted piece of indie-folk music, which seems to reflect well on Jake himself too. However, there’s still something of a melancholic vibe to the melody, although there’s definitely hope on the horizon, in a bittersweet way. I found myself reminded a little of Brian Fallon’s work, but Jake still manages to retain his own unique flavour on this track. If you’re a fan of heart-on-sleeve songwriting with a folky sound, then Hollow Man deserves an immediate spot in your playlist rotation.
