It’s fair to say that rock bands from Wrexham have enjoyed a well-documented spotlight in the music industry recently. We have a new band to add to that list – five-piece Rogue Angels have been quietly carving out their own brand of hard-hitting yet catchy rock and roll music in Wales, waiting to unleash their brand new EP on the world. The Welsh quintet have finally emerged from the ashes of earlier band Gung Ho, returning with their debut five track record, Right Side Of Midnight.

The EP naturally opens with the incredibly compelling title track, Right Side Of Midnight, which sets the tone for the record off perfectly with some killer guitar licks and an upbeat rhythm. The track is primarily driven by an infectious sounding guitar riff and a thumping rhythm section, sounding like something straight out of the 70s or 80s. There’s clearly a lot of ambition here – mixed in with the catchy choruses and classic rock star grit, it seems that Rogue Angels could truly be onto something special here!
Next, we dive into Seven Year Itch (2026 Mix), which manages to somehow be even catchier than the previous tune. It feels like a natural single, but there’s still a sense of bite and attitude here, keeping the tempo high throughout. It’s another rock anthem, but it’s even more accessible than Right Side of Midnight, showing that this is one band with a particular knack for writing memorable hooks and choruses.
You Talk Too Much is quite an interesting tune, as it changes things up a little by introducing a punchy, mid-tempo groove of a lick, which places the defiant narrative of the song front and centre. The production on the whole EP feels raw and immediate, but it’s imminently prominent here, showcasing the rhythm section of the band off well. The drums and bass lay down a rock-solid foundation, whilst several funky guitar riffs are weaved in and out of the music over the course of the piece.
Liza (2026 Mix) is extremely different from the previous songs on Right Side of Midnight, as it’s a sprawling five-minute track that perfectly balances lyrical weight with an intricate sense of songwriting. It’s possibly the most 80s rock tune on the EP, due to the synths that echo around in the background. There seems to be a genuine emotional resonance here, as the song gradually builds the atmospheric verses up into a soaring, solo-heavy climax that creates one of the major highlights of the record.
Closing out this fabulous collection of songs is Straight from the Heart (2026 Mix), a track that effortlessly manages to bring the tempo and pace down, enabling Rogue Angels’ natural melodic instincts to shine through. It’s a really emotive piece of music (as you might have guessed from the title), but it’s still full of driving energy, bringing the EP to a satisfying finish.
As you can see, Right Side Of Midnight is a thoroughly uplifting debut EP that proves that Rogue Angels are a band well-equipped to carry real weight in the music industry. Their music may sound a little dated at times due to the style of rock on offer here, but there’s definitely a place for it in the world, particularly when the songwriting talent is this strong. The raw production style also adds greatly to the feel of the record, feeling both grounded and delightfully energetic, all at the same time.
