Messy Eater Serves Up The Blues With New Single

Considering the amount of music we’ve shared by Messy Eater, you’d think we had the measure of him. Yet, he can still surprise us.

Messy Eater is the York-based project of Pete Bott. His new single The lost art of making friends takes his usual chipper alternative pop and throws it out the window, giving us something bluesy and sultry. What isn’t lost is Bott’s honest reflection on our modern lives. Licks of sax amp up the groove post-chorus while the lyrics lament loneliness and search for connection.

The single is the first release from Messy Eater’s upcoming EP, Blue Sundae. The EP was inspired by Picasso’s “Blue Period”, as well as by Joni Mitchell’s Blue album and ’90s hip-hop that often sampled classic Blue Note jazz records. Based on the evidence so far, it’ll be a delicious dessert to Bott’s previous courses Comfort Food, Southern Fried, and Starters.

I’m loving the evolution of Messy Eater’s sound. He’s one of the best acts coming out of York right now.

If you want to keep up to date with all he’s doing, you can do so by heading to his website, and by following him on Spotify, SoundCloud, Instagram, and TikTok.

The lost art of making friends is out now, and you can listen to it below.
