Interview: FROZENROOM

When Swiss alternative rockers FROZENROOM set out to make their new album release, A Rush of Life, they threw out the conventional rulebook in favour of creative freedom, friendship and the raw chemistry the band have with one another. The result is a bold seven-track album bursting with stadium-ready riffs, soaring vocal hooks and an undeniable rhythmic pulse – find out more in our review of A Rush of Life. If you’ve already checked the record out and like what you hear, read our interview with Boris to learn more about the making of the album.

How has your 2026 been so far? Did you do anything nice over the summer? I think it’s our first time working with you!

Hey! How are you? Yes, it’s the first time we’re working together. It’s a pleasure to meet you.

You recently released a new album titled A Rush of Life. What can you tell us about the record? How has the reception been so far?

We released the album in August and we’re thrilled with the reception so far. It’s actually funny how things work nowadays. We don’t do too much social media, but people from all over the world are getting in touch with us and seem to really care about our music. We seem to have a strong community that loves our music especially in Colombia, Brazil and the States. But in our own country, the streaming numbers are quite moderate.

Oh, and our single The Fire seems to be a good power song and is quite popular on fitness sites, hahaha.

Am I right in thinking this is your first album release since Arise in 2012? Why was there such a delay in releasing music? How has your songwriting changed over the years?

We built our own music studio called Addicted Audio in 2015. And once it was finished, we all became fathers and our perspectives on life changed, really. The truth is, we simply didn’t have enough time to write quality music as much as we would have liked to.

We did release some music, but we’re old-school. We like to put out a full album rather than just a song. But we’re proud to be back. And being able to create music with friends is a privilege.

Two singles have been released from the album already – Coming Home and The Fire. Why did you decide to release those tracks as singles? What can you tell us about those songs?

We originally planned on releasing The Fire in January or February. But then there was the tragedy in Crans-Montana, where many lives were lost in a devastating fire.

Since we already had a video in the making, we decided to postpone everything for a few months. We knew that The Fire – a positive hymn and rock anthem – would get a good reception from listeners, and we wanted it to be the album’s appetiser.

Do you have any more singles set for release soon?

Not at the moment. We’re just enjoying the album and the great feedback and reception. But we intend to go back into the studio in 2027 and record some fresh music. We’re really looking forward to doing it again.

What have you been listening to recently that you can recommend? Who are your main influences as an artist?

I’m currently a huge fan of Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves, Twin Atlantic and the like. Alain is more into the ’80s and ’90s, but some new stuff as well. Chris is still digging metal and presents his latest findings every time we meet. But we all have a great appreciation for all kinds of handmade music.

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

Unfortunately not. Book us! We’ll do pretty much anything, I suppose. Alain would even play a naked show if that’s what you want. He never reads the fine print anyway.

You’re from Basel. What is the local music scene like there?

Rock has always been dead in Basel. Or let me put it differently: rock has always been the underdog in Basel. And from that, a strong underground community emerged that has supported each other for years.

But yeah, clubs are dying, audiences are getting older and younger people don’t often show up.

Do you have anything else exciting coming up this year or next?

We haven’t played live for a few years. But in 2027, we’re kicking things off and getting back on stage. We’re very excited about that!

Any last words for the fans?

Thanks for supporting our music and being on this wonderful journey with us. Thanks for all the great feedback, for sharing our music and for all the kind words we receive. You’re the best!
