John McCullagh and the Escorts

Out and about on their Autumn tour promoting new album Newborn Cry, John McCullagh and The Escorts return to The Spread Eagle this Friday 2 October.

Following a tour of intimate UK venues surrounding the release of the New Born Cry LP and a string of festival shows over the summer, John McCullagh and The Escorts now set their sights on a series of Autumn gigs.

With a ripping live set honed at the likes of Blackthorn Music Festival, Kendal Calling, Vicars Picnic and Party in The Pines, a busy Autumn will see the four piece take their melodic guitar pop to a host of UK venues.
Speaking about the Autumn dates, John said:

“Glad the album’s finally out there so people can hear it. Loved the dates we’ve played this year and to play Doncaster was a real highlight for me, so looking forward to keep promoting the album into the autumn.”

A final festival date at Blackburn’s Confessional Fest on 26 Sept leads into dates at York, Banbury and Wolverhampton, plus Scottish gigs planned at Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow on 23 Oct and Aberdeen’s Cafe Drummonds.

Earlier this year, Doncaster’s highly acclaimed teenage troubadour John McCullagh returned with new entourage The Escorts and a brand new collection of songs to boot in New Born Cry. Recorded at John Power’s (Cast / The La’s) Liverpool studio and featuring the man himself on production duties, the album featured singles Towerland Lullaby and a remixed version of Box Of Tricks, as well as current She’s Calling Me.
Influenced by the likes of Donovan, Marc Bolan, Paul Weller and Johnny Cash, McCullagh has been playing guitar and writing songs since he was twelve, and his latent talent for his beloved six-string was soon followed by mastery of the harmonica. When McCullagh was just fifteen years old, he became one of the first signings to music industry legend Alan McGee’s label, 359 Music.

We caught the lads at The Spread Eagle before and had a blast. We highly recommend you get down and enjoy John McCullagh and The Escorts while they’re still playing intimate venues!
