Canadian indie pop duo Freedom Baby express themselves through a range of instruments.
By Graeme Smith
The delicately constructed When We Go plasters together layers of brass, twinkling strings and steady bass drums. Topping everything are the male/female vocal harmonies which are all at a time there and not there, as if they are reaching you subconsciously. Then, things go electric, and there is an explosion of sound that lands the piece right on the pulse of modern indie pop.
I have to confess, I’m a little blown away by Freedom Baby. They’re sound is so big and complex it’s hard to believe they aren’t already as huge as fellow countrymen Arcade Fire. Have a listen to When We Go below and see for yourself.
