Green Chilli Roots will be welcoming their first international artist to the Winning Post on Bishopthorpe Road on Wednesday 20 June.

Matt Woods is an Americana, country and southern roots songwriter from Knoxville, Tennessee. “Some folks call what I do Americana, but I have a hard time putting a label on things like that. A lot of my songs are very much based in classic country music while others are grounded in straight forward and greasy rock’n’roll,” Woods explains. “I write what is ready to come out and try to be as honest as I can about it.”

As soon as I heard Matt’s voice and songs I agreed with my colleague Dan Webster that we had to feature him at one of our gigs and I’m delighted that he was able to include Green Chilli Roots on his UK tour.

Matt has received widespread critical acclaim both for his live performances and his Brushy Mountain CD.

Support on the evening will come from York based acoustic singer / songwriter and multi instrumentalist Tom McKenzie.
