Heather Jayne – The Shadows EP

York Calling favourite and The Voice semi-finalist Heather Jayne has released her debut EP The Shadows.

By Graeme Smith

The EP features the full range of Heather’s style and her exceptional voice. Titular opening track The Shadows is a big, electronic wonder. Heather’s voice is enough to carry any track but the complex arrangement featuring echoing guitars and driving bass adds some extra punch to really start the EP with a bang.

Fool is a little more down-tempo to begin with. Stripped back, Heather is put centre stage. Yet, it’s a builder and the electronic accompaniment kicks in at the first, floaty chorus.

The EP closes with Prize, a mellow slow-burner. Heather show’s a bit of vulnerability, her voice sounding delicate in the verse before the big notes come back in the chorus.

19-year-old Heather first caught out attention with debut single The Power and we’ve been watching her rise closely ever since. With this debut EP, Heather is showing she’s not just a one trick pony and it’s a great prelude to her inevitable full-length. Check out The Shadows EP below:
