Handsome Jack are all set to release their new album Everything’s Gonna Be Alright next week, and it’s a blinder! The band specialise in a form of rock ‘n’ roll that seems to have gone out of fashion decades ago, however here the genre sounds more invigorated than ever.

Handsome Jack’s music is like a modern version of the old timey boogie woogie rock ‘n’ roll style that kicked off the music scene as we know it, with elements of americana, soul, and the blues mixed in for good measure. If you enjoy rock music from the 50s, 60s, or 70s then you should find something to like here, and the band clearly wear their influences on their sleeves. Groovy licks mix together with soulful vocals to create music that acts almost as a time warp, taking you back in time, pulled along once more by waves of nostalgia.
It’s generally a good album, but there were a couple of things that came to mind when pondering on the cons of the record. Firstly, at times the tracks do sound very similar to one another and whilst that is common of this style, it does make the first few listens a bit hard. Push through that and spin the album a few times though and that issue should resolve itself. The production also sounded a little too raw at times, however that might be intentional with this style, and it isn’t really a major issue at all. Apart from that it has a very warm sound to it, which works for the most part.
Everything’s Gonna Be Alright shows that Handsome Jack still have that magic ‘it’ that makes their music sound so great, and hopefully they can be one of the bands to help revive the old rock ‘n’ roll scene once more. There are a couple of minor issues here but it is a rare album that can be classed as perfect – a little more variety might be the key next time around though.
