At its heart, Jorvik Radio is about community from its venue to its presenters to its content. The station promises a fresh, vibrant sound for listeners in and around York as well as a resource for the community be it giving local people a voice, local businesses support or local residents the chance to gain confidence and experience in broadcasting.
Based in the The Centre @ Burnholme on Mossdale Avenue, the station will be operating an open door policy giving people a chance to see how a radio station is run and training in broadcasting. It will also be offering the opportunity for curated playlists where those in the community will be encouraged to share the music they love.
That’s all while putting out a diverse range of programming 24/7 over the airwaves at the frequency 94.8 FM and online. All of Jorvik Radio’s presenters and staff are volunteers and members of the York community themselves.
And you can officially count York Calling in that community as our Editor in Chief Graeme will be supporting with content for the station. Graeme says:
“Having been approached about Jorvik Radio early doors and watched the station grow from a concept, I’m really glad to see Jorvik Radio make it to air. It’s a great thing for us to be part of. Listen out for me on 94.8 FM!”
The official launch of Jorvik Radio will be 4 November with an event planned at Spark York on 2 November to celebrate. The all-day event will be open to all and consist of a family event during the day with live music and DJs in the evening. Watch this space for more details.
