York-based band Miles and The Chain Gang release their first song on iTunes on 24 February. When It Comes To You is a bright, brisk track with echoes of New Wave bands from the early 1980s, classic Americana, and The Beatles.
‘It’s a pop song,’ says Miles, band songwriter and vocalist. ‘It’s a happy-go-lucky song about unrequited love.’
Joining Miles are band mates Tim Bruce (bass), Billy Hickling (drums) and Alan Dawson (guitar). The song is augmented by York vocalist Holly Taymar-Bilton and Simon Waggott (keyboards). The song was recorded at University of York recording studio and mixed by Jonny Hooker at Young Thugs. A video accompanying the song was filmed at The Crescent in York in December 2019, and you can check it out below.
The band formed in late 2018 and have been playing around the York area. ‘We’re working on more gig plans,’ says Miles. ‘We want to get out there more: Leeds, East Yorkshire, Manchester. Getting the video done was a relief. It took ages to sort it all out. I’m really pleased with the track, though. I like the energy of it. It’s the audio equivalent of a labrador wagging its tail.’
The band play The White Horse on Bootham on Friday 3 April 2020, free entry.
