We chat to London-based pop rock band Maidon about their new single, influences and the prospect of live music literally blowing your mind.
How was your 2019?
Well, 2019 treated us quite well; we had the opportunity to record four new tracks and to release three or them. We made new contacts and we continued in our quest of being heard by as many people as possible.
Have you released any music so far this year? If so, what can you tell us about that?
We released our last single Don’t Do This to Me in all digital platforms a few weeks ago on 17 January. It is a powerful and catchy tune with a killer chorus. It is performing very well so far with over 23 thousand streams on Spotify in three weeks.
Are you working on any new music at the moment? What are you working on, and when will it be released?
At the moment we are writing more songs for this project. Actually, we are honing six new tunes that will be recorded when they are ready. Also we are trying to promote the tracks already out there, which is not easy. We are considering other projects as well and always on the lookout for new opportunities. As restless musicians we are always working on ideas and carefully developing the ones we consider they have the best potential.
Have you got any upcoming tours planned? If so, where are you playing and where are you looking forward to going most?
There are no scheduled shows at the moment but we are pushing for a proper tour in order to introduce the band to the fans. What we can say is that you cannot miss the first opportunity you have to see Maidon live. Without a doubt it will literally blow your mind.
Who/what has influenced you the most as musicians?
We mainly lived in full the Brit-pop era and listened to a lot of music from the ’80s and ’70s. British and American pop-rock music have always been our main influence and the base of our music. David Bowie, Prince, U2, Suede, Radiohead, or Arcade Fire are a clear reference to understand the sound of Maidon.
What have you been listening to recently that you can recommend to our readers?
There are many good bands out there all around the world. Technology has made things easier for musicians to record music. However, the only band I can recommend now is Maidon.
Why do you think people should pick up one of your records or come and see you live, and what can people expect from one of your shows?
They should listen to Maidon because they will find ten high-quality compositions with a careful and fine production that won’t let them down at all. Probably, every single band will say wonderful things of themselves, but we can assure you that this is really good stuff. If you don’t believe me yet, give it a listen and prove us wrong.
Any last words for the fans?
