Interview: Keep Up

We chat to American rock band Keep Up about their debut album, influences and their passion for music.

Interview by Jane Howkins

How is 2020 treating you so far?
So far we’ve been busy bees. We are in the process of promoting our debut album Up in Flames and the album has been nominated for ‘best alternative rock’ of the Syracuse, NY area music awards. We are honoured to be selected and thank all our friends, family and fans that helped us get here. We definitely could not have done it without you all!

Have you released any music so far this year? If so, what can you tell us about that?
No music so far but the year has just begun. For now, we are still so stoked to have released our full length album. If you haven’t heard, go listen to Up in Flames by Keep Up. If you like pop-punk style music, you’ll want this in rotation on your downloaded tunes.

Are you working on any new music at the moment? What are you working on, and when will it be released?
This year we plan to release a string of singles that will ultimately be part of an EP. With our album, Up in Flames, landing as such a hit, we are building up more material that can reflect our sound and vibe. This year has just begun, so prepare to hear more from Keep Up.

Have you got any upcoming tours planned? If so, where are you playing and where are you looking forward to going most?
We’ve always got plans for more tours. Nothing officially launched but we plan on travelling around the northeast USA area. Currently talking with contacts in Boston, Rhode Island, NYC and Philadelphia.

Who/what has influenced you the most as musicians?
Recently, we’ve all been really influenced by bands like Blink-182, Paramore, Fall Out Boy while also pulling interests from Chance the Rapper, NF and Post Malone in our new music. We try to stay open minded in our music but we always end up with a nostalgic pop-punk sound.

What have you been listening to recently that you can recommend to our readers?
A band called Dinosaur Pile-Up has been on our radar. They are touring through our home town next month and it’s been a blast jamming out to their latest album Celebrity Mansions. I look forward to seeing their live show.

Why do you think people should pick up one of your records or come and see you live, and what can people expect from one of your shows?
The first part about Keep Up that makes us unique is our ability to switch instruments on stage. We are a 3 piece pop punk trio, but we all play each others instruments live. Can you Keep Up?
