New Music: purpl – FOMO

Brighton’s songwriter/producer purpl first hit our radar through her relaxing track HawaiiHer latest is called FOMO. Far from being relaxing, it speaks of the angst of modern teen relationships.

By Graeme Smith

Not that it’s not a joy to listen to. Purpl’s delicate vocals float over a simple electric guitar loop in the verse before the bass kicks in for the chorus.

“FOMO” in this context is used as a contemporary term for “the grass is greener on the other side” and purpl paints the picture of being on the wrong end of this part of human nature.

Yet, she’s not lost in self-pity; it’s more an acceptance, a knowledge that what the person she is speaking to is really missing out on is right in front of them.
