Last Friend is the debut single of London blues singer Yasmine St.Croix, and it’s a stunning debut.

There’s little I can say to prepare you for the experience you’re about to have, but I’ll give it a go. As the piano intro drifts in, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was just an average blues song. Yasmine’s vocals are pleasant in the first verse, but nothing groundbreaking.

Then, bam! The climatic chorus kicks in, as does the full force of Yasmine’s vocals, passionate and arresting. Last Friend was recorded live and it’s a smart choice. Close your eyes and you can almost see the performance unfolding before you.
