I think we’re witnessing the birth of a star in L.A Salami. His new album The Cause of Doubt & a Reason to Have Faith was released last Friday, alongside the video for new single The Age of Glass – a commentary on tradition and growing up.

L.A Salami, full name Lookman Adekunle Salami, stars in the video, performing mime in black face. It feels like a provocative choice but that is perhaps a sign of the times. Lookman himself explains that he doesn’t find black makeup offensive so long as the intentions are positive, and felt more uncomfortable donning traditional white mime makeup.
It’s the perfect visual for the narrative of The Age of Glass. It’s a poignant reflection of where we’ve come from, both for Lookman personally, and as a society. There are elements of blues mixing with hip hop and poetic lyrics that range from the organic to the cosmic.
There’s so much I could unpack from The Age of Glass but you’re better off watching the video and drawing your own conclusions. Check it out below.
