Discovery: Enis Rotthoff

Enis Rotthoff is a German cinematic composer who has recently penned the soundtrack to The Sunlight Night, an indie feature starring Jenny Slate, Zach Galifianakis and Gillian Anderson.

The title track has a bright yet introspective feel. It combines a string ensemble with the modernity of synthesisers, the result being an interesting hybrid of the classical and contemporary. Often soundtracks can be devoid of context without the accompanying moving pictures but The Sunlight Night theme tells a story all of its own.

This is the latest of Enis’s feature film scores, having made a career for himself in the indie film world over the past few years. If you’ve seen films like Guns Akimbo (starring Daniel Radcliffe), Wetlands or Stones In The Sun then you’ll be familiar with his work. If you’re new to him like I am (or even if you’re not), you can check out The Sunlight Night below.
