Geena Fontanella is an electro pop artist from LA who caught my attention through her frank new single Circles.

Sometimes it’s good to not fit in. That’s what Circles tells us. Staying true to yourself is better than popularity that is fleeting. It’s a message that we were probably all raised to believe, so it’s nothing new, but Geena delivers it with a sense of wordplay and catchy, staccato melody that is a joy to listen to.
Given LA’s reputation, I can only assume that Circles is at least semi-autobiographical and Geena knows one or two people who run in their own circles. The authenticity makes the storytelling in the song all the more compelling, and good storytelling is what makes pop songs the ones you keep coming back to.
