Paul Zambrano is a composer from Los Angeles whose Gothic and atmospheric new piece of cinematic music Spiritland caught my ear.
By Graeme Smith
There’s nothing subtle about Spiritland and that’s why I love it. It’s a big arrangement of brass, strings, and percussion. Sometimes cinematic music suffers from not having any accompanying visuals but not so with Spiritland, there’s enough narrative in the music itself to paint a thousand pictures.
Perhaps better known for composing solo piano pieces for indie films, Spiritland represents something of a departure from Paul’s usual work. It’s not a departure in tone or substance though and if you like your music a little dark and brooding, check out his back catalogue.
