A few months ago, I shared what is still one of the stand out tracks of my 2020, Light by Japanese performer FEM (real name Mayuko Hitotsuyanagi). Alongside her FEM project, Mayuko is the frontwoman for bedroom pop band Cuushe.

Cuushe’s sound shares much of the features that I loved about FEM, most notably Mayuko’s delicate, enduring vocals. While FEM steered towards post-rock sensibilities, Cuushe focuses on ethereal pop.
New track Hold Half stands out through its rise and fall. Gentle, ambient verses give way to soaring choruses that will envelop you. It’s yet another reason why I am so in love with Mayuko’s work. Her new album is out in November and I can’t wait to hear it.
