One good indicator of which acts the latest generation consider to be the classics of the previous one is how many covers they garner. If that’s the case, young musicians of today hold Blink-182 in high esteem. I’ve heard a lot of weird and wonderful covers of their tracks appear in the last few years, the latest exhibit coming from American bedroom pop artist Emilia Ali.

In her version of What’s My Age Again? she makes the track her own. It’s far removed from the guitar-laden original, with a quiet, stripped back intimacy. The puerile lyrics are juxtaposed with a sensual closeness that becomes surreal.
Emilia has gathered quite a following online since her graduation in 2016 and has even taken the stage at Lollapalooza and SXSW festivals. Being able to put your stamp of a cover of a classic is quite a skill. One can only suspect that her originals are even more magical.
