The Brendan Eder Ensemble might be new to the jazz scene but it is peopled by some veterans of music. The ensemble features members of HAIM, LA Phil, and KNOWER.

Their new track HOP is an intriguing prospect. It doesn’t seem to follow any of the rules and yet somehow works. On first listen, I wasn’t sure what I was hearing but I couldn’t take my ears away from it. Woodwinds skip alongside seemingly independently of each other and the whole piece is glued together by a funky, repeating rhythm.
At two minutes and twenty seconds, it’s short and sweet but leaves a lasting impression. HOP is a track for anyone looking for something fresh and challenging. You can check it out below.
