Glowrogues are a Manchester-based jazz collective who have teamed up with singer and producer EMBLM for their new ‘sample flip’ project Glowing.

Sample flipping is the process of taking a sample from another song, deconstructing it and then reconstructing it for your beat. The sample in Glowing is taken from Patti Page’s 1952 song Let Me Call You Sweetheart which gives the track an ethereal, old school feel.
EMBLM’s vocals add another layer of smoothness to an already laid back arrangement and the whole thing is just so chilled that I couldn’t help but nod along. Throw is a sax solo from Glowrogues’ Sam Healey and you’ve got the total package.
Glowing is a great piece of new music from a northern collective that I’m pleased to have discovered. Check it out below.
