I’ve not covered Northampton grime artist slowthai on the blog before but his name is known to me. He rose to fame in 2019 after placing 4th in the BBC Sound of 2019 competition. He then came back to earth with a bang after a drunken appearance on stage with comedian Katherine Ryan at the NME awards which made headlines.

The incident was at the front of his mind when penning Cancelled, a collaboration with fellow grime artist Skepta. It’s of course a clapback to those who called for him to be removed from the public eye. It’s short and doesn’t mess around, packed full of boasts and pop culture references flowing over big, bass beats.
Whatever you think of his slowthai’s behaviour at the NME awards, he’s here to tell you he’s moved past it. It’s clear we won’t be hearing the last of him for some time yet. Check out the video for Cancelled below.
