Lewis Daniel is a British experimental artist who debut EP States Of Being explores the spectrum of Black music from gospel to grime. The first single Why Me is fuses trap and jazz.

Each track in States of Being explores a different feeling. You can probably guess the feeling that Why Me explores. In true jazz style it’s a series of expansive improvisations but there’s something a bit different about Lewis’s brand of jazz. A bass beat plods along, creating a foundation onto which the noodling grows. Disembodied vocal samples speak in different languages throughout. It’s all very disconcerting but at the same time utterly compelling.
