Reza Safinia is a neoclassical composer who I first shared on the blog last month, running the rule over his piece Mantra. His new one Within is a quietly contemplative affair.

There’s just something about the interplay of piano and strings that does something to me. It’s a mixture of mournfulness and hope that feels profound. Just as with Mantra, Reza is a master of his musical elements in Within, creating a soundscape that draws you in and holds your attention with subtle melodic variations.
The piece was inspired by the panic buying that happened near the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The behaviour reminded Reza of the early days of the revolution in his native Iran from which he and his family fled.
You can hear Within below.
