Such A Waste is the new track from London-based indie rock duo Familiar Action. It blends pop and punk, but not in the way you might think.
By Graeme Smith
The opening verse, with its machine gun rhythm, feels like DIY punk arriving straight from the late ’70s. Yet, once the chorus hits things go altogether more pop rock along the lines of ’00s indie act Everything Everything. As the song reaches its climax, things change once again, breaking down into something akin to performance poetry with a surf rock edge.
The difficult in defining Familiar Action’s sound is one of the things that really fascinated me about them. It’s early days for them but they’re already gaining a growing reputation for live performance. I’m really excited to see how their sound develops.
