Toya Delazy is a London grime artist who I haven’t had pleasure of sharing her music since 2018. Her new new one is worth the wait though. Resurrection is a tune.
By Graeme Smith
Toya is Zulu royalty and in Resurrection she raps in Zulu. The whole track feels like a chant, delivered over an array of percussion that is a nod to her African roots. Yet, the sound is very much anchored in the London grime scene, with big bass beats and a healthy dose of attitude. It’s certainly a move to something heavier from London Town, the track of hers I shared over three years ago.
Her new album Afrorave Vol 1 is set to be released on 18 June. Check out Resurrection below.
