The Way She Holds Me has a real classic country feel to it. Its instrumentals are chock full of echoing melancholic guitar, the vocals are gruff and full of longing, and its accompanying video is full of imagery of the lonesome mid-west.

It’s the latest from Canadian singer songwriter Willie Stratton whose laid back delivery and image-laden lyrics caught my attention. It’s a simple track but one delivered with an authentic sense of emotion. It lays bare the dichotomy of romance – its ecstasies and its despair.
Despite its classic country feel, the genre is something of a new development for Willie, whose previous releases have been more in the realm of folk and indie rock. I certainly think it’s a genre that suits him and would love to hear more from him.
