Girlfriends is a story of young love and finding yourself during your awkward teenage years delivered by Canadian pop singer songwriter Breagh Isabel.
By Graeme Smith
I was captured by Girlfriends’ insanely catchy and memorable hook but there’s a lot more to the song than that. It’s an impeccably observed story of young love, made even more difficult by societal (and personal) biases against same-sex relationships. Full of authentic emotions, it tells the story of two girls who see each other as more than friends, but attempt to keep their relationship platonic.
The track comes with a beautifully performed video that brings the story to life.
Girlfriends is Breagh’s first solo release but she has been writing songs for other artists which have gone on to feature in big TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Batwoman. She’s also toured as a member of the band Port Cities.
