Boywithahalo is an acoustic folk artist from Dallas, USA who I first discovered last month through his track Summer We Never Had. His new one has a somewhat slower tempo but his trademark sound remains.

Accompanied simply by ukulele, the delicate vocals become the star of the show. Delivered with a delicate passion, they tell the story of the fear associated with being Asian in America during the coronavirus pandemic, and the related hate-crimes that are sadly too present.
As the track progresses, the arrangement builds, introducing percussion that feels positively rich compared to the music’s earlier simplicity. It’s highly effective and I found myself feeling the tension and anxiousness portrayed in the song’s lyrics. Dontsaveme is another masterclass from an artist who has found and celebrates his unique voice.
