Regular readers will be very familiar with Shanghai Treason. The Yorkshire Celtic punk rockers have featured on our blog a few times now. Their latest is a track with an important message. It’s called Hero’s Welcome.
By Graeme Smith
The song tells the true story of one of the band’s great grandfathers. In World War II, he escaped his POW camp and managed to make it back to England, only to be treated as a spy on his return. It’s a timely reminder of just how horrible war is, no matter what side you are on.
The poignant video features guitarist Tom Jackson, who leads on the vocals this time around, along with the band’s banjo player, a prominent instrument in the song’s arrangement.
You can see the video below. The song is taken from self-titled debut which is set for release in January next year. The guys will be taking the album on tour in January and February supporting The Rumjacks’ UK tour.
