Discovery: Midnight Préfou

Midnight Préfou are a French acoustic folk act who takes their cues from the likes of Mumford And Sons and Of Monsters And Men in their new track Hey.

By Graeme Smith

With those influences, you’d expect Hey to be a triumphant piece of folk pop using vocal harmonies and that’s exactly what you get. What set the track apart, though, is its beautifully descriptive and poetic lyrics. Hey simply is a joy to listen to.

It’s the second single from the band’s forthcoming new EP Aotearoa. The name comes from the Maori name for New Zealand, and was conceived while Midnight Préfou were travelling around the country.
