Discovery: Fritch

Fritch is an experimental artist based in Swansea whose new double-A side Do You See What I See/ As Starlings Do is an atmospheric journey into an unsettling post-industrial world.

In Do You See What I See, Fritch channels David Bowie at his most avant-garde. Smooth, delicate vocals stretch over harsh, metallic instrumentals. Things continue with a hypnotic form of monotony, somehow never becoming boring. In fact, I found myself on the edge of my seat, waiting to see where the unsettling journey would take me.

The destination was As Starlings Do. Somehow even bolder and more experimental than Do You See What I See, it’s more of an auditory tapestry than a piece of music. Its macabre video is a must watch. You can check it out below.

Fritch won’t be to everyone’s taste but he’s certainly doing something I’ve seldom heard elsewhere and that in itself should be applauded. There are rewards in his music for those who love to be challenged. If you like what you’ve heard here, be sure to get a hold of a copy of his forthcoming album Unwire Rewire Rewire, due out 5 November.
