Interview – Sun Affair

Sun Affair is a new project from Sydney musician Wesley Stormer – I recently featured his track Lend Myself in a round-up review and playlist of songs containing elements of indie rock music. The song is really catchy and is definitely worth checking out – check out our interview below for more information!

You recently released a new single titled Lend Myself. What can you tell us about the track and where can it be purchased?

Lend Myself is the 3rd single I’ve released with Sun Affair. It’s an up-tempo indie soul tune featuring my good pal Lars Parto. It was my attempt to write a Motown track but over time it morphed into its own thing. There are definitely still some nods to the Motown sound though!

Have you got any plans to release a full length album/EP anytime soon?

Yes! I’ve got an EP coming out in the not too distant future (before Christmas!). It’s titled First Sign of Light and will include Lend Myself as well as 3 other tracks.

What is the writing and recording process like for you?

I find that the writing and recording process tend to overlap in interesting ways. I might go into the studio with a demo recording and a rough idea of what I envision the song to be but as more instruments and sounds are added the end product can be quite removed from where it began.

Do you plan to release any more singles at any point in the near future?

Yes! We actually have a new single called After All This Time coming out on Friday 3rd December. It’s not a Christmas tune but I’m hoping that doesn’t stop people playing it over the holidays.

You’re originally from Australia. What is the music scene like in your part of the world at the moment and are there any local band/artists you can recommend?

We’ve got a really great and diverse music scene in Australia. I’ve been really into a local Sydney band called Thunder Fox. They’ve just released a top new album. Also a band called The Regime.

What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?

I’m really influenced by Todd Rundgren and Tatsuro Yamashita. Both are amazing songwriters, producers and performers – the whole package. At the moment I’ve been listening to a band called Dr. Dog.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

It’s definitely thrown a fair few spanners in the works but I always try to be proactive in whatever situation I find myself in. We even filmed the video for Lend Myself during the most recent Sydney lockdown.

Do you have any tour dates lined up?

No tours lined up just yet but I’m looking to have an EP launch in the not too distant future.

What can people expect from one of your gigs and why do you think people should come and see you perform live?

We haven’t gigged yet but when we do people can expect a whole lot of guest performers, positive energy and pleasing outfits.

Any last words for the fans?
