Craig Gould is a folk singer songwriter from Burton-on-Trent who I first discovered a few months back through his CALM charity single No Place To Hide. His follow up Captain of the Seas sticks with the same subject matter, telling the story of how toxic masculinity can risk lives.

Taking from his own story of how mental health struggles have taken a toll on him, Captain of the Seas paints a picture of someone who seems in control but is really adrift. It mirrors Craig’s own story, where over-work caused him to collapse and suffer a head injury, a story he brings to life through nautical metaphor. It’s made all the more poignant through the track’s dramatic instrumental arrangement and Craig’s passionate vocals in the chorus.
Once again a charity single, all proceeds from the track will be donated to CALM – The Campaign Against Living Miserable. You can hear Captain of the Seas below.
