Flower Face, real name Ruby McKinnon, is a Canadian singer songwriter whose poetic and melancholic new track Back To You caught my ear.
By Graeme Smith
Taking her cues from the likes of Beabadoobee, Bright Eyes, and Phoebe Bridgers, Ruby creates indie folk pop that’s infused with a sense of sadness that will feel all too real. Back To You is woven together with a downbeat acoustic guitar arrangement and peopled by characters that are fighting against the circumstances of their lives through small, defiant actions.
Ruby started her musical journey age five, when she started to learn the piano. She was song writing at age fourteen but was then sadly diagnosed with cancer at seventeen. It’s a battle she gladly won yet it continues to colour her song writing.
