Discovery: Crosscurrent

Crosscurrents are an indie pop duo who hail from Cape Town, South Africa. Their tale of self-doubt tempered by optimism Hocus Pocus has caught my ear.

By Graeme Smith

Hocus Pocus has got an easy groove and a somewhat classic feel about it. Its melody is bright; its arrangement textured but not overly-complicated. But what really caught my attention was its smooth vocals and its positive message. Laidback verses give way to a chorus that brims with joy.

The duo consist of brothers David and Owen Franke. They began releasing their music in 2016, building on their backgrounds in jazz and classical to make a brand of pop that’s quite unlike anything else.
